FAQ Links down - sorry for the bad URLs
Since USGenWeb and LAGenWeb pages have shifted no less than twice in just a few months, the FAQ is going to be totally useless for awhile. I'm finding it difficult to update as I fear that they will change the URLs again! The new search engine is great though. Check it out!
Daisy Bell Crowe is mentioned on page http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/washington/newspapers/el1924.txt as applying for a marriage liscense on January 3, 1924 with Oscar Tullos in Bogalusa, LA. This abstract was published in The Era-Leader.

Looking for ancestors/descendants of, or anything about, Daisy Bell Crowe, b. 1909, probably in Washington Parish, LA. Thanks. |
There is also a post on the RootsWeb mailing lists concerning the proposed and very controversial reservior that is slated to cover 8 or 9 cemeteries in the parish. You can read the thread here and same article at Louisiana Genealogy blog post here.

1850 Washington Parish Census Online
Mae and Doug Davis have transcribed the 1850 Washington Parish Census for everyone and posted it online June 10, 2008. I was really excited to see new info in the Louisiana Census for Washington Parish. You can find it at this URL: ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/la/washington/1850/
I also recieved a response about Line Creek Cemetery. Thanks for posting this info!
Someone asked about Line Creek Cemetery. I suspect that is the one in
northern Caddo Parish near Ida, Louisiana. Magees, Bickhams Bankstons
(and probably others) migrated from Washington Parish to that corner of
the ArkLaTex.

Recent Queries - Line creek cemetery
Does anyone know where Line Creek Church is located? I have no idea and have had several queries for the cemetery at both sites. The queries this month maxed out at over 40 in the last week which is unusually large, but fitting to the memorial day weekend. Many people finally have the day off to do some research. I posted the queries I recieved below. I wish visitors who can't find a cemetery would let me know. Many of the local church cemeteries are not listed on the map, but you can find them either from the LAGenWeb Index link or on the alpha page.
I've finished at least two pages of cemetery locations and descriptions that can be found here. I'm slowly adding them as I have the time.
The Saving Graves new website has gone offline this week. No one knows what happened to the new url. http://www.savinggraves.com Find A Grave message boarders don't know what has happened, either. You'll have to sign in to the message boards to get the the Louisiana board. This is what was posted in the Louisiana forum:
"...The new Saving Graves website was at the URL http://www.savinggraves.com . Mr. Spurlock, created a new site sometime in January 2008 and also was publishing the http://gravepreservation.blogspot.com
blog. The site is no longer there or the URL has changed? I'm not sure
as it is not up and running today. There was also a wiki for the site
that is not there either. Nothing. I just wondered if anyone had heard
anything else about it. The site you have mentioned, http://www.savinggraves.org
is the OLD Saving Graves website that is still up and running, but I
don't think anyone is at the helm any longer nor is Mr. Spurlock able
to access this site - or so I believe. Anyone have any more info or
insight as to what is going on?
" The map page no longer offers the A to Z index and instead offers the alpha page. There are a few cemeteries missing from the alpha page, like Beulah Baptist Church cemetery in Tangipahoa Parish, for example. The URL for this cemetery has changed to http://files.usgwarchives.org/la/washington/cemeteries/vol_7/beulahch.txt
I've adjusted the alpha page to include a frame of the map. You may not be able to immediately see the jumpy script to the alpha page so you must scroll up on the jumpy script available on the map to get there.

One Hundred Years Later
Wow, it has been 100 years since the tornado in Washington Parish.
It has been four months since my last post. I really should come here more often. I have been busy updating the site as LAGenWeb has moved its archives. I'm not sure where I am at the moment with the move. I've changed the URL's on the site and added a bit of jumpy script to the page to navigate links and helpful sites. The jumpy script doesn't work in Firefox browsers for some reason, at least not mine so the pages require Internet Explorer in order to navigate and mouse over the cemetery descriptions. The website has quickly approached its eighth year of service. There have been many, many changes to the internet since it began. The first thing that changed, and was ever evolving at the time, were the links to the USGS sites. These were never updated. USGeoGen has since gone under for Louisiana. I don't think that they have updated that site since 2002 or 2003. So that eliminated the internet links to two of my five sources. It is frustrating when URL's change and redirect. The website was created way before Google offered maps and GIS and before USGS had a webpage on identifying cemeteries and genealogy. I've seen a few others like the one I created that I liked more. My idea was to view the entire parish on one screen. Not many other sites have accomplished this, in fact, I haven't seen one that did, yet. I have appreciated a few other sites, however, that offered a grid view and a key to markers on the grid that was excellent. There are also a few sites of interest that I will have to re-locate that had images of West Florida and interactive maps.
I've updated the blogroll for the Crab Apple Lane Blog, as it too, has moved recently. Additionally, I have found that since December of 2007, Louisiana is available at the Historical Markers Database. There are a few markers for St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana available.
