It's official, it's Spring.  Blossoms are out, weather is (marginally) better and of course the tourists and deer are back.  The 10 foot deer fences are going up (if they ever came down) so the town has this weird sort of prison-like look to it.

Oh, and it should start snowing any day now....

Summer - dog days
Why do they call it the dog days of summer?  I guess because the heat makes you want to just lay around?

Well ,either way, we've made it to the hot, bad stagnant air time of year.  Heat I don't mind; it's the heat and hazy smog filled air that bothers me.

Time to head to the mountains for clear skies and bright nighttime stars!

Spring is finally official
It might be cold and nasty weather, but the plants and bees have dug in their heels and won't let go!

Frozen Fog
When I was younger I liked winter more.  Not as much any longer.  I prefer the warmth and comfort of a tropical beach to the harsh realities of winter in southern Oregon.   But the sad truth is I live here and you have to put up with it.  In that light, there are some very beautiful days here, even in the freezer chest of winter.

I put together a little slide show of a winter day. Taken with my trusty, if not overly sophisticated, cell phone camera:

embedded links seem toget stripped so follow that.  I like this one:

that's not a prickly bush or anything, just a few days of mainly sub-freezing temps with fog.

Fresh Warm Bread
I've written about one of our best local bakeries before, and I had an expereince with them again I'd like to share.

Deux Chats

I stopped by last Friday morning anticipating a nice warm sunrise brioche or other tasty delight fresh from the oven.  To my dismay, and I'm sure theirs even more so, there was naught to be had!  Their oven had failed in the wee hours of the morning and all they had was a room full of rising dough!

Nice folks that they are, though, I was not turned away empty handed.  They offered me a few oven ready loaves to take home, which I gladly did.  Popped them in the oven and here's the result:

The aroma, nice.  The taste even better.  It's hard to beat bread fresh from your own oven, especially if all you haev to do is bake it Cool

We enjoyed it for several days.  Took a loaf to the parents too.  Oh, our big old lab enjoyed most of a loaf also.  He might be old, but he can still reach the counter if we're not carefull!
