A Witch Shall Be Born
Weird Tales Magazine December 1934
The December 1934 issue of Weird Tales featured the novelette A Witch Shall Be Born by Robert E. Howard. The 128 page magazine sold for 25 cents. It contained 2 other novelettes, 5 short stories, 2 poems, an article and the 6 the of 7 parts from the novel The Trail of the Cloven Hoof by Arlton Eadie (1886-1935).

A Witch Shall Be Born is one of the original short stories about Conan the Cimmerian. The story concerns a witch replacing her twin sister as queen of a city state, which brings her into conflict with Conan who had been the captain of the queen's guard.

Conan's crucifixion early in the story in the second chapter is considered one of the most memorable scene in the entire series. The crucifixion scene was adapted for the first Conan film, Conan the Barbarian (1982).
