Birds of Prey
Birds of Prey

After the Joker paralyzed Barbara Gordon, she recognizied she could no longer be Batgirl. Barbara developed a powerful computer system to help crime fighters and renamed herself Oracle. As Oracle, Barbara formed an alliance with Black Canary and The Huntress who together become the Birds of Prey.

When Barbara Gordon recovered from her injuries she reclaimed the Batgirl mantle. Barbara handed over the reigns of the Birds of Prey to Black Canary. When Black Canary formed a new team of Birds, Barbara initially declined membership, though later agreed to be a part time member.

Black Canary

Black CanaryDinah Lance as Black Canary is leader of the Birds of Prey.

Black Canary became a rogue hero when she was on the run for the murder of Kurt Lance, her husband and partner in the disbanded Team 7. She focused her attention on parts of the criminal underworld that escape the grasp of most normal heroes. Canary's past provides her the contacts she needs to not only capture her targets, but also recruit new operatives when needed in the Birds of Prey.

Due to a curse placed upon her at childhood by the Wizard, Dinah Lance developed a 'Canary Cry', a potent sonic attack, able to damage and stun foes or objects. She is an expert martial artist.

StarlingEvelyn Crawford / Starling was the first member of Black Canary's newly formed Birds of Prey. She was an old friend of Black Canary from their time undercover at Penguin's Iceberg Lounge. Evelyn appeared on Government watch lists for different things and is considered an outlaw. Starling is shown to be highly adept in both armed and unarmed combat, being seen taking out several thugs at once.

She was a new character introduced in Birds of Prey Vol 3 no.1 (November, 2011) with the relaunch of the DC after the events of Flashpoint.

KatanaKatana joined Black Canary and Starling as the third member of the Birds of Prey. She quit the team in Birds of Prey Vol 3 no.15 February, 2013.

Katana is a lethal fighter who waged war on the Yakuza clan that was responsible for the death of her husband. She appears to be mentally unstable due to her belief that her husband's soul, whom she often converses with in Japanese, resides in her sword.

Katana left the Birds of Prey in order to keep an eye on a cult of assassins known as the Daggers. She has accepted membership in Amanda Waller's new Justice League of America in exchange for information on her husband's murderers.

Poison Ivy

Poison IvyPoison Ivy (Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley) first appeared in Batman #181 (June 1966). She is one of the world's most prominent eco-terrorists. She is obsessed with plants, botany, and environmentalism. She uses toxins from plants and mind controlling pheromones for her criminal activities, which are usually aimed at protecting the natural environment.

In the New 52 timeline, Black Canary recruits Poison Ivy to join the Birds of Prey. The other members protested because of Ivy's violent past and connections to various murders. Their suspicions are proven correct when Ivy poisons the team and forces them to attack corrupt companies she wants to destroy. Katana apparently kills Poison Ivy in Birds of Prey Vol 3 #12 October, 2012
