2012 Top Draft Pick

The Red Wings traded their first round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft to Tampa Bay in the Kyle Quincey deal. In the second round, they picked 19-year-old Martin Frk going 49th overall. The right-winger is 6-foot tall and weighs 204lbs. He is Czech and is in his third and final season with the Halifax Mooseheads in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League ("The Q").

Frk was the youngest player to represent the Czech Republic at the 2011 World Junior Championships, leading the team with three goals in six games. He missed the first half of the 2011-12 QMJHL season due to a concussion. He returned to play 34 games and in the playoffs recorded 5 goals and 6 assists in 17 games

On July 31, 2012, the Detroit Red Wings signed Frk to a 3-year entry level contract that pays $925,000 per season.
