...and yet more's happening.
Yesterday there was a hurricane warning for the territory where my sister and niece live. As of now, their electricity and water is down. They have it somewhat difficult, but it wasn't a direct hit so they escaped the wrath and they are safe. All my niece's pets are also okay.
Yesterday my father came back from his overnight fishing trip and he brought a few small sharks home. He had caught a fifteen pound hammerhead shark but the owner of the boat took it for himself. He also had a bit to drink before he came home.
Today we consulted someone else to complete the back stair's railing since the other contractor isn't answering his mobile 'phone and he has his equipment in one of our rooms and he hasn't returned to complete the front railing yet. It isn't completely painted yet and he had the gall to ask to complete the back railing too. If he comes back we'll pay him and have him complete the front although the new contractor will be charging more for the back stairs.
The Minister of Works and Transport for Trinidad and Tobago has stated that he plans to go ahead with building the five new highways in the country. One of the primary reasons that this party was voted into government was to avoid such a project like this being undertaken. It means that many families will be displaced from their homes and prime agricultural land will be wasted for construction. Most likely I'll have to move and where will it end? I'll have quite a time in reorganizing myself with respect to clinics and such. All the years invested in this community will have been time wasted too. All the plants and trees painstakingly cultivated will also be lost. What can I do but hope for the best?
At least I keep my sanity with the help of my mammy. She went out of her way to pick up the audio CD's from the store for me. I have some really nice music by Celine Dion, Soundgarden, Garbage, t.A.T.u, The Offspring and Kylie Minogue to add to my collection now.
Recently my younger sister carried her notebook PC to school and the technicians configured it to use the wireless connection at the university. So, as ususal when she could not use the Internet connection at home she asked me for help. I'm unfamiliar with Windows 7 so it took a while for me to find what I was looking for but I got it to work and showed her what to do to switch between using the service at school and the one at home. When using her PC I saw her awful wallpaper. What I managed to see though was that when her battery was at eighteen percent (18%), she had forty-nine (49) minutes of uptime remaining! For such a high-powered PC I found that to be amazing; my notebook battery doesn't have such awesome performance. Also I wonder if the technicians looked at the passkey for our wireless network at home?
The neighbours have gone on a vacation and they took their daughter too. It's supposed to be for over a week and you know what? They left the light on in one of their rooms downstairs and it shines at my window during the night. It's not that bothersome but what will the electricity consumption (or moreso, wastage) be like? Would you know that they are both teachers too? No one can see the light from the road during the night so I wonder why they left it on.
Yesterday my mammy made rice, callaloo with crab, stewed fish (barracuda) and boiled plantains for lunch. I didn't take any of the crab (too much dern work! and too much dirty shell trash!) but I took the tail of the fish and wowie! was that a lot! I didn't eat any more in the evening but I had some of the plantain. Next month I'll have the picture of this meal up on my website(s) in the food photographs section and you'll see the piece of fish which I had. Also I told my mammy to give the pecan pineapple cheesecake they bought for me to my sister but she had it herself. I also took a photograph of it so stay tuned!
My sister also has to go abroad for a conference related to the university soon. She had to visit the embassy, the passport office and other places. She was successful on all fronts thus far and she had an easy time at the embassy too. She'll be gone for about two or three weeks and I'm looking forward to a bonus trip to the airport this time around! I've never been to the new airport since it was built about ten years ago. I just hope that I will be allowed to take photos there. I might have a chance if I'm clean-shaven. :)
