NHL Player of the Month

St. Louis Blues forward Alexander Steen has been named the NHL's player of the month for October.

Steen had 11 goals in October, scoring in nine of 10 games and on 35.5% of his shots on goal, to help the Blues pick up 16 out of a possible 20 points (7-1-2). He leads the Blues and ranks fifth in the NHL with 16 points (11-516) in 10 games.

He is the son of former Winnipeg Jets star, Thomas Steen. The 29-year-old Alexander Steen was born in Winnipeg. He has dual Canadian and Swedish citizenship, and represents Sweden in international hockey competition. Now in his 8th NHL season, Steen was traded to the Blues from the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2008. Under his current contract, which ends at the end of the season, he will make $3.6 million this year.

Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby was named the second star, scoring eight goals and adding 13 assists,

San Jose goaltender Antti Niemi was named third star, with a 1.72 goals-against average, .924 save percentage and two shutouts in helping the Sharks earn a league-best 22 points in October.
