December 1: Jammie Day and November Summary

The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, p. 197
160.8 miles
cold, clear

84 recordings of 60 types. 32% clear.

I declared today a Jammie Day, and while I did do laundry and sort papers and start on the turkey soup (strained the fat off, then discovered I was out of rice.  I found a half full jar of Texmati in the pantry, which I haven't used since Rich died, but discovered rice gets stale, which I hadn't known), mostly I just sat with the cat in my lap and the dog at my feet. I watched Gone With the Wind and other things I'd taped.

At 7:30, I had just settled in and the phone rings. It was a hangup. Argh.

In November I walked 11.3 miles, rode 0 bike miles, I'm 2.3 pounds up (and 4 pounds since last year), 25 pages read.

I read 0 books, went to 0 movies and 2 plays, and 9 Masses.

I found 8 caches last month, and I'm at 8338.

I'm at 376th in the world, and am 23rd  locally.

In proofing, I'm in 1195th (out of 43793 proofers) place in the first proofing round, with 873 pages proofed, 24th (out of 5430) in P2 with 23525 pages, 625th (of 1002) in P3 with 469 pages and formatting 834th place (4215) with 1020 pages.  I really really really have to get back to this. Not gonna happen this month!

In Flickr I have 48875 pictures, with 931, 850 views, and 271 sets to work on.

On Netflix, Deadwood season 2, disk 5. (We kept the Wizard of Oz for a few weeks.)

Don Surber

4. From Fox News: "A self-proclaimed non-partisan organization has been given a $1.1 million grant to establish a database of ObamaCare success stories, as the Obama administration tries to rehab the law’s image amid the rocky rollout. Families USA, which describes itself on its website as a non-profit dedicated to 'the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care for all Americans,' received the $1,100,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Oct. 4."

A million bucks and nearly two months later they cannot find a single success story.

GOOD.
...
Remember how we had to pass it in a hurry because millions were dying? If the media had done its job and questioned the "45.7 million uninsured" this law would have been laughed out of existence.

Stupidity delayed is stupidity denied.

GOOD.
...
If a Republican president cost 80 million people their insurance, the media would crucify him -- and rightly so.

EVIL.
...
13. From Fox News: "A leader of the Navajo Code Talkers who appeared at a Washington Redskins home football game said Wednesday the team name is a symbol of loyalty and courage -- not a slur as asserted by critics who want it changed.  Roy Hawthorne, 87, of Lupton, Ariz., was one of four Code Talkers honored for their service in World War II during the Monday night game against the San Francisco 49ers."

Changing the name is racist.

Typical nontroversy: Liberals wade into something they know nothing about to stir up trouble.
....
14. From the College Fix: "In The Washington Post, Jonathan Zimmerman, a history professor from NYU, has written an article claiming that all of America’s problems would be soloved–GET THIS–if only we would allow Barack Obama to run for a third term!"
...
20. From the Associated Press: "A northwestern Pennsylvania pastor inspired by the popular reality TV series 'Duck Dynasty' is encouraging his congregation to come to church in camouflage clothing on Sunday.  The Rev. Chris Terbush tells the Bradford Era he’s hoping to attract new members to The First Wesleyan Church of Bradford, and to celebrate the state’s outdoors heritage on the day before deer season opens Monday."

        Satan: Duck season.
        Daffy: Thatan Theathon.
        Satan: Duck season.
        Daffy: Thatan Theathon.
        Satan: Duck season.
        Daffy: Thatan Theathon.
        Satan: Duck season.
        Daffy: Thatan Theathon.
        Satan: Duck season.
        Daffy: Thatan Theathon.
        Satan: Satan Season.
        Daffy: Duck Theathon.
        Bang!

GOOD.

David Edgren Anyone who can say the words "nostalgia" and "Carter years" in the same sentence with a completely straight face has a great future in something, but I'm not sure what.

Marcy Klatt ... I wonder what will happen when more of the "grass roots" will discover just how this will destroy them financially. I read an article today about how a cancer patient went to the press about how he lost his insurance and now is being audited by the IRS for years back. What we are watching is the slow destruction of our health care system, for all its problems, the best in the world. For years we have been wanting help to decrease the cost of our insurance, for so many the gov't has just hung a concrete rock around their necks.

Media to the Rescue

I called Gerhard's dad in Reno to wish him happy birthday.  He's 92 and still plenty sharp. He said he wishes it was 29 and I said just go dyslexic and say you're 29, nobody would doubt you.

I went to deposit a check at Union Bank and discovered their ATM no longer takes deposit envelopes.  Instead you put the naked check in and it reads it.  Interesting.  Then I stopped at Raley's to pick  up a fresh wreath.  I just am tired of the two I've had.  I even figured out how to hang it.

I went to 5:30 Mass and dinner, a Portuguese dinner today. I enjoyed it a lot more than the last one.  This means I can declare tomorrow a Jammie Day.

I've been thinking I was doing so well (apart from this whole Ron kerfuffle) and then in church they lit the Advent wreath.  A big trigger.  Dinner was good, though.
