Dreamin A day at a time

Soon I'll turn another year older and AARP keeps sending me brochures and applications, (just a hint, they just started doing that this year) with pictures of people that look a lot older than I feel. For a brief time, I almost fell into that state of mind that I think they want me to be in. You know, they create a picture and then try to convince you that you fit right in. Well I say "nut's" to that! I'm not ready to be categorized, shaped, molded or formed into anyone else's idea of how a middle aged person should dress, eat, act, appear...well you get the message right? I feel like a teenager when I'm out on the ocean, or exploring new underwater habitat and its life forms. I just feel alive! Some of the things I do to keep feeling younger is to fill my day with lots of activities.

Now that it's summer, the gardens are going in - a little late this year because winter wouldn’t let go. My family and I like to eat fresh veggies that we've grown in our back yard. That’s a daily routine. Then there's pest control on three cats, two dogs and a six year old Iquana. Six days a week, I'm the chef at a small Family Restaurant in a small town in Dutchess County, NY.

I've been in the business for over 30 years. But man, I love to fish and spend lots of my free time planning for the day when I'll walk away from the mainland and "Park It" on about a 50-60 ft. charter boat I plan to name "Recovery Too". I’ll go for a 7 yr. journey to all the places that I've only seen on TV or read about. I’ve seen a few, though not enough to to quench my thirst.

I guess what I was trying to say before I went off on a long run, is that to make these things a reality, the thoughts must stay in the forefront everyday. So at the age of AARP acceptance, (late bloomer comes to mind) I've started planning for the future by employing good common sense and eating sensibly, exercising regularly, and adding certain and positive thoughts into daily life. In addition, I say my prayers, try to say something nice about others everyday, tell my wife and daughter I love them, and dream of that day - God willing - when we leave dry land on that trip of a lifetime.

If any of you have similar dreams or hobbies, please join me in this forum and let's share our thoughts, please join me, Paul D.

PS. Forgot to say I also play the harmonica, for about 40 year's now. Blues, mostly.

Whatever it takes!

Recovery For Life

My name is Paul and this is my blog.I'm new to this in fact  I'm New to alot of things.

When I speak of "Recovery for Life",I'm speaking about ,"Just That",recovering from anything in your life that holds you back, that dampens your spirit, clouds your judgement.Could be a sports injury, the death of a close friend or family member,"loss of employment",or a medical diagnosis you could get along quite nicely without.Lets now include anything that brings you down, causes daily anxiety, depression, and a sense that your just going nowhere with your life.Get the picture yet?

These things happen everyday to everyone, thank God not at the same time, although sometimes they do!When I speak of these things I'm speaking about real events that happened to me,some I created and some I did not.Had control over some, but not others.Welcome to Life my friends!

When I speak of Recovery for Life I speak about my Recovery from 37 years of addiction and the process involved.I call it my "Process of elimination",Removing the things that affect you in a negative way,on a daily basis. One by one,at your own speed {there are no time limits},you just slowly remove the negative from your heart, one by one.

The day this blog was originally posted I was'nt sure what to write about so the topic became about the one thing that I love the most,Big Game Fishing, thats part of my Recovery. However, its really all about the creation of a place where others can come and just come and ask a question, post a comment about the kind of day they've had, share a personal concern about a friend or family member.

My hope is to attract everyday people, with everyday problems and to create a forum for all of us to speak.

Here are some topics which I am experienced in:

Drug and alchohol addiction, after 37 years I'm qaulified as an expert and feel ready offer suggestions about Recovery for Life.

Fishing of any type, especially offshore Big game!

I'm a Chef,so lets talk about food,I make pretty good soups!

These are some of the things that make me happy and improve my daily life, lets talk about yours, post your comments to this blog, but I have to warn you I type very slowly so be patient

And please, always remember to"Feel good about yourself, your worth the time it takes".

God bless and have a great day!
