Miniature Fairy Garden Construction

How to create a Fairy Garden

Fairies and other magical folk are fixtures in fables, myths and ancient folklore.  Long since medieval times, mystical fairies have flitted across gardens worldwide.  Fairies are magical miniature creatures of good will that bring luck, prosperity,
health to the chosen few whose garden they inhabit.

Fairies are playful joyful creatures that enjoy a good prank and will frolic about with glee in your garden. Fairy gardeners can surely expect mysterious disarray in their gardens after a night of mischievous fairies romping about.

While we often emphasize their overly playful nature, fairies are also symbols of good luck and prosperity.  Fairies are often said to dwell in herb gardens to ensure that herbs will flourish and protect humans from illness, danger, and stress.

Location is an important element of creating your miniature fairy garden!  Fairies are naturally shy creatures when it comes to being seen by their human counterparts so be sure to choose a location that fairies will fill comfortable in.

Take advantage of the natural facets of your garden and be sure to incorporate any natural hills, ponds, gnarled stumps, rock outcropping or other natural features.

You can also create your miniature fairy garden in raised planter beds or even nestled in raised containers.  Make a dynamic fairy garden by adding mounts of top soil to create natural hills and valleys.  Create a miniature pond or incorporate natural water elements into your fairy garden to attract water dwelling fairies into your magical garden.

Be sure to keep in mind that you will attract more than fairies into your enchanted garden.  Our fairy garden is a bustling in demand destination for rabbits, a multitude of birds, rabbits, deer and other fairy friends.  In addition to the attractive plants and flowers, fairies often dwell deep
in the woods and bring their woodland creatures with them.   Ancient folklore often depicts fairies riding birds, deer or horses as they travel about the world!

Also consider the types of plants you will be using in your enchanted miniature garden.  Many miniature gardening plants are delicate and should avoid the midday sun.  In this case, planting under the broad umbrella of a shade tree might be the perfect solution to protect your miniature fairy garden.

Fairy Garden Quick Tip:  Need help delineating a separate section for your fairy garden?  Use a rope or garden hose to create a naturally shaped outline that's less rigid than geometric shapes during the planning phases of your miniature garden.
