Maui May 2013
Day three here in Maui and I am just starting the blog! Monday - arrival day, we got in at around 2:30 p.m. and picked up the rental car and headed straight for the Whole Foods market in Kahului. Things have changed here since we last visited, for sure! That was 7 years ago - I guess we should expect change in that amount of time. We grabbed enough food and wine to get through the first couple days, jumped back in the car and to the condo.

Our condo here at the Surfside in Kihei is very cute and we have a lovely oceanfront view. The surf is high here; I guess unusually so, which makes for great wave watching, but not so much for snorkeling :( We have not yet headed to Snorkel Bobs for gear - we'll see how the rest of the week goes. Beachwalking is amazing as always. To the South we can walk as far as Wailea/Makena. To the North we could go as far as Sugar Beach? Not sure...

So far we have not ventured very far. We are totally satisfied to eat, sleep, read and walk the beach! Yesterday our walk took us to Kamaole II and this morning we went south to Makapu. Today is the first day I feel like I may be catching up on my rest. I had no idea I was so exhausted! Next door to us at the Mana Kai, there is a great beachfront restaurant - Five Palms - that has happy hour with 1/2 price pupus and drinks. So, you guessed it - we've had lovely dinners the past two nights feasting on an assortment of pupus (spicy tuna rolls, bbq ribs, coconut shrimp, lettuce wraps), a crisp pinot gris for me and of course a red for Tim.

People watching is spectacular, whether walking the beach, sitting on our lanai or at the restaurant or lounging on the green expanse of lawn that edges up against the beach out front. It is so fun to imagine what brought each of these people to this place of paradise!

Tim and I have both finished the first of the books we brought - lol - we have two left and the condo is stocked with quite a few, but we may have to hit a bookstore before too long. Today we will venture out and do some exploring; maybe grab a fish taco or some other yummy treat for lunch. I'll get Tim to help me post some pics later on.

For now, Aloha to all; oh, and not to sound too cliche, but - 'wish you were here!'
