Exposing the Roots of Modern Psychology
Adlerian Aberrations
According to Alfred Adler (1870-1937), conscious or subconscious feelings of inferiority (to which he gave the name inferiority complex), combined with compensatory defense mechanisms, are the basic causes of psychopathological behavior.
The paper Adlerian Aberrations reviews the teachings of Adler, including such concepts as the "inferiority complex" and the "style of life." Adler's teachings are linked to the modern focus on self-esteem, the New Age movement, and the epidemic "false memory syndrome."

Freudian Frauds
Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian physician, neurologist, and founder of psychoanalysis. Freud has had a major impact on counseling theory and practice, and his deadly influence continues to this day among Christian psychologists.
Freudian Frauds reviews Totem and Taboo (1913) Future of an Illusion, and Moses and Monotheism (1939). The paper exposes in detail Freud's extreme hostility to the Christian faith, and to religion in general. This outspoken atheist made every effort to "explain" religious faith and practice in psychoanalytic terms, and thus to destroy it.

Varieties of Religious Deception
William James (1842-1910) book Principles of Psychology (1890) advanced the principle of functionalism in psychology, thus removing psychology from its traditional place as a branch of philosophy and establishing it among the laboratory sciences based on experimental method. He is a key forerunner to the New Age movement and also to the vague "higher power" concept of the 12-step program.
The paper Varieties of Religious Deception reviews James' 1902 book Varieties of Religious Experience As a key writer in the "psychology of religion" movement, William James attempted to analyze the experiences of all religions according to the standards of modern psychology.
