Domine Quo Vadis? (Master, where are you going?) was painted around 1600 by Annabale Carracci (1560-1609). It was purchased in 1826 by the National Gallery, London.
It shows Peter along the Appian Way meeting Christ carrying the cross. Peter asked Christ where he was going who replied that he was going to Rome to be crucified a second time. Peter had been fleeing from Nero's persecution of the Christians but spurred by his master's example Peter returned to Rome where he too was eventually crucified.

Noli me Tangere by Titian
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Noli me Tangere was painted by Titian (1477?-1576) whose name in Italian is Tiziano Vecellio. It is considered a painting started by Giorgione and completed by Titian, who gave the composition its final form. It was bequeathed to the National Gallery, London by Samuel Rogers in 1856.
Mary Magdalen at first thought Christ was a gardener when he appeared to her after the Resurrection. In this painting, he has been recognized and the Magdalen stretches forward eagerly to touch Jesus.

Rebecca at the Well by Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini (1675-1741) probably painted Rebecca at the Well during his first stay in England from 1708 to 1713. It was bequethed to the National Gallery, London by Claude D. Rotch in 1962.
The story of Rebecca at the well is told in Genesis 24. Abraham sent his servant to search out a bride for his son, Isaac. The future wife would be the woman who offered the servant and his camels water to drink. The beautiful Rebecca did exactly this. The servant gave Rebecca a bracelet and then lodged with her family who all agreed that she could, if she wished, marry Isaac, which she duly did.

Tobias Laying Hold of the Fish by Domenichino
| | | | | | | | | | | | Shown is detail from Landscape with Tobias Laying Hold of the Fish by Domenico Zampieri (1581-1641, called Domenichino). The main theme of the picture is an extensive landscape with Tobias and the Angel occupying only a small part. It was acquired by the National Gallery, London as part of the 1831 Holwell Carr Bequest.
Tobias is attacked by a fish from the River Tigris. The archangel Raphael, accompanying Tobias, instructs him to take hold of the fish and gut it. The liver and heart is used by Tobias on his wedding night to drive away the devil while the gall of the fish cures the blindness of Tobias' father.
