Hall of Fame - Tom Cochrane

Tom Cochrane was born in Lynn Lake, Manitoba. The family relocated to Acton, Ontario, when Tom was four years old and later to Etobicoke, Ontario.

After meeting at the El Mocambo Tavern in Toronto, Cochrane joined Red Rider in 1978 and served as their lead singer and main songwriter for more than ten years. Cochrane recorded six studio albums with Red Rider plus a live album, a best of album and a box set.

Cochrane launched his solo career in 1991 with the release of the song Life is a Highway. The single became a global success and was followed by the release of his Mad Mad World album, which would reach the six million mark in worldwide sales. At the 1992 Juno's, Mad Mad World was Best Album, Life is a Highway was Single of the Year and Cochrane was Best Male Vocalist and Songwriter of the Year.

He has since relesed four solo studio albums, the latest in 2006 was No Stranger which was nominated for a Adult Alternative Album of the Year Juno.

In 2003, Tom Cochrane was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In 2009, he was inducted onto Canada's Walk of Fame.

Dark Horse


Dark Horse is Nickelback's sixth studio album. It was co-produced by the band and Grammy Award-winning producer and songwriter Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who has produced albums for such acts as Foreigner, AC/DC, Bryan Adams, Def Leppard and Shania Twain. 8 of the 11 tracks were released as singles including "Something in Your Mouth", "I'd Come for You" and "Burn it to the Ground".

It was ranked #191 on Billboard's 200 Albums of the Decade. It was the band's fourth straight Multi-Platinum selling album in the U.S. and has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide.

At the 2009 Juno Awards, it was awarded "Album of the Year". Nickelback won "Group of the Year" and won the "Juno Fan Choice Award" an online vote open to the general public.

Flavors of Entanglement

Alanis Morissette

Alanis Morissette was born in Ottawa and began her career in Canada, recording two dance-pop albums as a teenager. After graduating from high school, Morissette moved from Ottawa to Toronto. She travelled to Los Angeles to co-write and record Jagged Little Pill with Glen Ballard. It was released in 1995 when she was 21-years-old and went on to sell over 33 million copies worldwide.

Flavors of Entanglement was her seventh studio album. It won the 2009 Juno for Pop Album of the Year and Morissette was also nominated for a Juno as Songwriter of the Year for the songs "Underneath", "Not As We", "In Praise Of The Vulnerable Man" from the album. Morissette has stated that the album was created out of her grief after the break-up with Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds.

The Reminder

Leslie Feist was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia. She grew up in Regina and later Calgary. She moved to Toronto when she was 20. She has released four studio albums as a solo artist as well as four releases with Broken Social Scene.

Her third solo album, The Reminder won Juno Awards in 2008 for Pop Album of the Year and for Album of the Year. It was also nominated for Pop Album of the Year at the 50th Grammy Awards.

The single 1234 became famous after its use in an Apple iPod nano commercial. It also won the 2008 Juno award for Single of the Year. Time magazine named "1234" one of The 10 Best Songs of 2007.

The Best Damn Thing

Avril Lavigne was born in Belleville, Ontario, but spent most of her youth in Napanee. In 2002, when she was 17 years old, Lavigne broke onto the music scene with her debut album Let Go.

The Best Damn Thing is her third studio album. The album was 2007's fourth top-selling album worldwide and has sold over 7 million copies. The album was the #1 album on the UK Albums Chart, the U.S. Billboard 200, as well as #1 in several other countries. The first single released from the album, "Girlfriend", reached the top of the charts in over twelve countries worldwide, including her first U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number 1 single.

It was nominated for a 2008 Album of the Year Juno but lost out to The Reminder by Feist.
