The Parish of Southern Trinity

St Albans, Malden, 2005 The Parish of Southern Trinity is the most southern Anglican Parish in Canada. Located along the north shore of Lake Erie, the parish is made up of Christ Church, Colchester, St. Alban's, Malden and St. Andrew's, Harrow.

The first services in Colchester were in 1805. A stone building was constructed in 1819 and replaced in 1876 with the current building built across the road from the cemetery. St Andrew's, Harrow began in 1890 and now worship in a building erected in 1964 that seats 200. Shown right is St. Alban's, Malden which was a Methodist building located by the lake that was bought in 1896 and moved north.

Centre for Public Theology

Centre for Public Theology logo The Centre for Public Theology was established in 2008 as a federally-funded three year research initiative in public theology in Canada. It is located in the Faculty of Theology at Huron University College, at the University of Western Ontario. The Centre is part of a global network of 24 such institutions raising awareness on the theological perspective on human life and public policy across religious traditions and faiths.

A cycle of topics relating to politics and justice, human life, and the environment are being examined. Last May's inaugural conference was on Canada's role in Afghanistan. May 14-15, the second conference will be on HIV infection and AIDS, and next year's planned conference will be on the threat of climate change and the question of energy policy.

Whitby Church to be Rebuilt

All Saints, Whitby fireThe rebuilding of All Saints' Anglican Church, Whitby, Ontario will begin late May with construction anticipated to take at least 18 months.

A fire broke out at the 143-year-old church just after 5 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2009 causing nearly $3 million in damages. Since then burned timber has been removed from the church, the walls have been propped up and a temporary flat roof has been put in. There is an ongoing investigation by police as to the cause of the fire.

The congregation has been meeting at St. John's Anglican, Port Whitby and at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Whitby. All Saints' new priest in charge is the Rev'd. Canon Jeannie Loughrey, who accepted a two-year appointment last month.
